SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — The Caddo Commission has voted in favor to help fund a local parish truancy prevention program.
The Volunteers for Youth Justice Truancy Program will receive $60,000 from Caddo Parish.
The funds will be allocated to help staff and support the program which sole mission is to help truant students and their families.
Although some might say truancy is a school board issue, officials from the organization say it’s in fact, a community issue.
“Truancy is not just a school issue, it’s a community issue, because when kids are removed from school and out into the streets, that’s when the community is at stake,” said Rick Foreman who is the Executive Director for Volunteers for Youth Justice.
