Mall St. Vincent's tax increase
SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — Supporters were present at yesterday's City Council meeting to voice their opinions about a potential sales tax increase at Mall St. Vincents.
The tax increase is estimated to raise more than $16 million dollars for a total redesign of the mall.
Residents along with workers from the mall were in the City chambers yesterday to speak in favor of the one percent sales tax increase.
Supporters say that the sales tax would help revolutionize the mall which has seen a major decrease in traffic over the years.
"There are people who would benefit from this at many different levels; it would also create a number of jobs. We are also looking at maintaining the jobs that are at the retail facility over the long term," said District B Councilman Jeff Everson.
The City Council postponed the vote to finalize the tax and plans to revisit the matter at the next council meeting.
