UAPB Men Beat Cold-Shooting Tech

William Byrd had 16 points, six rebounds and five blocks Tuesday, leading Arkansas-Pine bluff to a 61-49 victory over Louisiana Tech.

The Golden Lions (3-5) also got 10 points each from Terrance Calvin and Marcelle Goins, and Jarvis Gunter pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Despite hitting only 29 percent of its shots in the first half, Tech (1-6) was behind only 29-24 at halftime. But the Bulldogs' shooting improved only a little in the second half, for a game average of 31.6 percent to UAPB's 49.0 percent.

Jonathan "JC" Clark led the Bulldogs with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench. James Loe, making his second start of the season, had 10 points, including two 3-point shots.

Tech led 19-18 with 7:02 to play in the first half, but the Golden Lions took the lead for good seconds later. They also beat Tech 67-54 in Pine Bluff earlier in the season.
