Seahawks QB heading to Rangers' spring training

Twitter
Friday, February 21, 2014 - 10:09am

The 2014 Super Bowl-winning quarterback will be heading south to join the Texas Rangers for spring training.

Seattle Seahawks play caller, Russell Wilson, announced Thursday night, via Twitter, he would be joining the Rangers' ball club in Surprise, Arizona, Monday, March 3.

Wilson did not specify whether or not he would participate in drills and workouts or just to be a motivational symbol.

The Rangers selected Wilson in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft in December, plucking him from the Colorado Rockies organization for $12,000.

Prior to settling down in Seattle, Wilson, who specializes in second base, was a fourth round draft pick by the Rockies and recorded a .229 batting average with five bombs, 119 strikeouts and 19 stolen bases in 2010-2011 Class A ball.

Wilson lead the Seahawks and the "12th Man" to a huge Super Bowl victory over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in early February. Wilson went 18-25 for 206 yards with two touchdowns in the 43-8 win.
