Trio of Cajuns Named All-SBC

Trio of Cajuns Named All-SBC

By Ragin' Cajuns Sports Information Dept.

The seventh annual Sun Belt Conference football media days kicked off on Monday with the release of the 2007 preseason all-conference team and the coaches' poll.

Three UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns were named to the All-SBC team, led by running back Tyrell Fenroy. Fenroy, a first team selection at the conclusion of last season, is the only player in Cajuns history with two 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He sits 1,085 yards shy of Brian Mitchell's career rushing record.

Joining Fenroy were kicker Drew Edmiston and offensive tackle Jesse Newman. Edmiston was also a first team selection last season after an impressive 11-for-14 performance on field goal attempts. Newman has been on the All-SBC team each of the past two seasons after starting 21 consecutive games at left tackle.

Notable Cajuns left off the preseason list include quarterback Michael Desormeaux and defensive end Rodney Hardeway. Desormeaux is a two-time All-SBC performer in the all-purpose category but was only eligible at quarterback since the Sun Belt does not have a preseason all-purpose player. Hardeway was an honorable mention on last season's all conference team, but was voted behind Josh Pinnick, Tavares Jones, Erik Walden and Jeremiah Chapman. Pinnick, Jones and Walden were all first team selections last season, while Chapman was on the second team.

After being named the preseason favorites one year ago, UL Lafayette was picked in a tie for fourth in the preseason coaches' poll. Defending conference champion Troy was tabbed to repeat, followed by Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State and ULM. Florida Atlantic, North Texas and Florida International round out the rest of the poll.
