Thousands of Americans are signing petitions seeking permission for their states to secede from the United States. So far, secession petitions have been filed in 20 states on We The People, a government website.
States who have filed include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
The chance of a state being granted permission to secede from the American government is not likely. However, an official response from the Obama administration is required should a petition gain 25,000 signatures within one month / 30 days.
Monday, the petition for Texas to secede reached the 25,000 signatures mark needed to garner a response from President Obama. The heading of the petition on We The People reads, "Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government." Total signatures on the Texas petition this morning was at 66,123.
All petitions are available on this website.
