Late night fire destroys house

A fire gutted a house about two miles from the Port of Shreveport-Bossier Thursday night. The blaze was put out in about 20 minutes, but not before one fireman received minor burns on his neck.

2 councilman plead not guilty to charges

Two Monroe city councilmen accused of racketeering and bribery pleaded not guilty to charges. Arthur Gilmore and Robert "red" Stevens were indicted last month for taking bribes of nearly $9,000 in cash.
