A Mississippi woman was arrested after she allegedly refused to return a 4 year old child to her mother in New Iberia.

The incident was reported to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, Jan. 19. A female advised her 4 year old daughter was staying with Hebert and Hebert is now refusing to return her daughter to her.

The mother explained that Hebert, who is from Picayune, Mississippi, was in New Iberia visiting friends and allowed her 4 year old daughter to stay with Hebert on the evening of the January 16. Hebert was supposed to return her daughter the following day. However, officials say the mother was arrested during that time for a warrant issued by the Delcambre Police department and was incarcerated.

After the mother was released on January 18, she says she immediately contacted Hebert to return her daughter back to her, but Hebert had returned to Picayune, MS with her 4 year old. She says Hebert then refused to return the child back to her.

Detectives with the Iberia Parish Juvenile Division contacted Hebert in Mississippi. Detectives stated Hebert refused to return the 4 year old back to her mother in New Iberia. Detectives then obtained a warrant for Hebert’s arrest for Simple Kidnapping and contacted the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office, which is the local law enforcement agency where Hebert resides. Hebert was located and the 4 year old was placed into the custody of the Mississippi Department of Children and Family Services.

On January 20, 2013 detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Juvenile division arrived in Mississippi, obtained the child and returned her back to her mother in New Iberia.

Hebert is awaiting extradition back to Iberia Parish.
