Shreveport, La — Sandy Hook Elementary is about half a country away from Shreveport's South Highlands Elementary, but for parents, the distance didn't make a difference. On the first school day after the horrific murders, parents were nervous about taking their children to school.
There is no way to make any school a hundred percent safe from events like the Sandy Hook shootings, but school officials are doing everything they can to make local campuses as safe as possible.
In Caddo Parish Schools, the safety manual is always evolving. It currently meets the National Incident Management System requirements, which is the nation's "Best Practices" for safety.
Following the investigation into this most recent school shooting, Caddo Schools will look to see if there is anything they can learn from Sandy Hook to make local schools even safer.
