Water and sewer rate increase
Vote could come next Tuesday
SHREVEPORT,la (Kmss) — District G Councilman Sam Jenkins is pushing an amendment that would exclude seniors age 65 and older that are on a fixed income that would exclude them from a potential water and sewer rate increase.
"A lot of our seniors are living off very small income, they have to buy food, medicine and of course pay other utilities. So I think it is important to do what we can to make sure that we are not making people choose between paying their water bill and paying for medicine," said Jenkins.
The rate increase vote could come as early as next Tuesday at the Shreveport City Council meeting at Government Plaza.
The Council is also planning to hold a public hearing about the potential 76-percent increase.
