EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — Rapper Cameron Thomaz, better known by his stage name Wiz Khalifa, was due in an El Paso court today to face charges stemming from a May arrest for marijuana possession at the El Paso International Airport, but now, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police said TSA officers stopped Thomaz as he went through a security checkpoint at the El Paso International Airport at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, May 25, just hours after his performance at the Neon Desert Music Festival. Police said he was sent for a secondary screening because he did not have a valid ID.
It was during the second screening that a TSA officer found a metal container in his backpack with 0.5 grams marijuana.
TSA contacted El Paso Police and officers arrested Thomaz for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail and posted the $300 bond a few hours later.
He was set to appear in an El Paso court Wednesday to face charges. Court records indicate that Thomaz did not have an attorney, and was instead required to appear in person to represent himself. When Thomaz failed to appear in court today, a warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to appear.
