NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDSU-CNN) — A would-be armed robber had to embarrassingly ask for his shotgun back that he, moments ago, had pointed in a victim’s face during an attempted armed robbery, New Orleans police said.
The incident happened in the 1900 block of Burgundy Street in the Marigny about 5:05 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the victim was approached by a man who pointed a shotgun in his face and demanded his cash.
However, the robbery didn’t play out as the criminal may have hoped. The victim quickly snatched the weapon from the assailant’s hands and then proceeded to chase him. The robber apparently got away, but did return with another person in a black four-door sedan, according to the NOPD.
“Give me my gun back and I’ll give you your phone that you dropped,” the driver of the sedan told the victim, according to a news release from NOPD.
The victim didn’t seem to take kindly to turning over the weapon and then used the shotgun to strike the rear windshield of the vehicle, breaking it, the release said.
The two people inside the vehicle fled on Frenchmen Street to St. Charles Avenue then unknown.
The gunman was described by police as an African-American man, about 16 to 20 years old, standing about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black hat and black T-shirt.
The incident was caught on surveillance camera. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
