UPDATE: Woman arrested after officials find 6 horses in "extremely emaciated" condition
Bowie County, tx — UPDATE (Sept. 26th): A New Boston, TX woman has been arrested in connection with the six horses found earlier this month starving in Bowie County, TX.
33 year-old Terri Danielle Johnson (aka Terri Danielle Pool) was arrested Wednesday, September 26th.
This comes exactly three weeks after Bowie County officials were informed about six horses in very poor condition on Hwy. 82, about 3 miles east of DeKalb.
The horses were found in extremely emaciated condition. Some were unable to move.
The animals were seized, and one was humanely euthanized. Another died later.
The remaining horses were taken to a secure location to be fed and receive care.
Terri Danielle Johnson was named as the person responsible for the animals' care.
Johnson is charged with Cruelty to Livestock Animals, which is a class A misdemeanor.
Bail is set at $25,000.00.
The horses were awarded to the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, and will be adopted out to good homes.
ORIGINAL STORY (Sept. 13th): On September 5, the Bowie County Sheriff's Office received a report of horses starving on property located off Highway 82 near DeKalb.
Six horses were located and seized on September 7. One horse was in such poor condition, a veterinarian had to euthanize the animal. Another horse died due to its emaciated condition.
A person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly fails to provide necessary food, water, or care for a livestock animal in the persons custody. This is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of not more than $4,000.00.
Authorities are currently seeking an arrest warrant for the person who was in custody of the horses shown in these photos.
