Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — UPDATE:
Wednesday morning, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office announced that their crash team determined that the accident was a head on collision.
Gerald Buntyn, 21, of Shreveport was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger and Kevin Castro a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. 20 year old Castro of Shreveport, had a blow out while traveling East on East Preston.
Castro had two other vehicles traveling behind him. Buntyn just happened to also be traveling East on East Preston at a high rate of speed.
Buntyn topped a small hill and happened upon the slowing vehicles behind Castro with the blowout. Buntyn swerved left trying to avoid the slower moving vehicles and lost control and the two vehicles collided.
The Dodge Avenger rolled over several times and Buntyn was injured. Castro’s injuries were superficial.
Around 8pm, Shreveport Police were called out to East Preston Street, by Champion Lake and the Elks Lodge, in response to a roll over accident.
Witnesses accounts were varied. Some said the accident was a head on collision that resulted from the east bound drivers tire blowing out. Others say the two cars were both heading east, one trying to pass the other when the accident happened.
Neither car had passengers, and both drivers were hurt in the accident. Witnesses say the driver of the car that rolled and flipped over was not wearing a seatbelt, and was thrown from the driver's seat during the crash. Deputies are still investigating whether that victim is a juvenile. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but has since been upgraded to critical condition.
The driver in the other car suffered serious injuries from the accident.
After doing an initial investigation, Shreveport Police learned that where the accident occurred was not technically in the city limits, so Caddo Sheriff's Deputies were called out as well.
As witnesses reported different stories, a crash team was brought out to investigate what happened based on evidence at the scene.
Neighbors blocks away reported hearing the crash. East Preston Street was closed for several hours due to the accident.
