The suspect has been identified as 42 year old Donnie Ray Plater.
The victim has been identified as Cindy Johnson West, a 34 year old woman from Shreveport.
Original Story (Wednesday): Two people have been pronounced dead after a deadly police chase that began in Shreveport city limits and ended in rural Caddo Parish Wednesday morning.
At 8:28 a.m., Shreveport police officers were dispatched to the area of Airport Road and Grimmett Drive on reports of a domestic dispute. While en route, authorities began chasing a vehicle believed to be driven by a person involved in the incident. A second person, a woman, was also a passenger in the car, according to Caddo Parish Steve Prator.
During the chase on Grimmett Drive, shots were fired inside the car, and authorities believe the woman was shot dead.
The high-speed chase continued onto LA Highway 3049 and then onto George Road. Shortly after turning onto George Road, the driver, a man, stepped out of the car and began shooting at two Shreveport police officers. The gunman was killed after they returned fire.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The Caddo Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation and both officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure. They have been identified as Corporals Daniel Denby, hired by the department in February of 2000, and Michael Welch, hired by the department in March of 2005.
The shooter has been identified as a 42-year-old man and the victim a 34-year-old woman. Names have not been released, pending notification next of kin.
