UPDATE: Gunman, victim identified in fatal police-involved shooting
Shreveport, La — A man was shot and killed after allegedly shooting a woman at a house in west Shreveport Wednesday night.
At around 9:15 p.m., officers were sent to a home in the 9200 block of Cade Drive to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, three patrolmen found Jolette Frazier, 28, outside of the house with a gunshot wound to the torso. The officers quickly located a man, who allegedly shot the woman, inside the house.
When they found Elijah Haggerty, 31, he was armed with a shotgun. The shooter began to level the weapon at officers when two of them fired their guns, hitting Haggerty at least once in the upper body.
Frazier was taken to a local hospital where she underwent emergency surgery for major injures. The gunman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on information gathered, officials believe the pair had been romantically involved in the past. The man, who was armed with the shotgun, apparently forced his way into the home and shot the woman. Haggerty then dragged the Frazier into the front yard and returned inside where he ultimately confronted police with his weapon and was shot. There were three children in the home at the time of the first shooting, but they were not injured.
Chief of Police Willie Shaw has placed all three of the officers involved on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy. Chief Shaw, who was on scene last night, commented on the incident, saying, “This is a tragedy for all involved and our prayers are with the officers and the families of the victim and the deceased.”
