Texas (KMSS) — Starting Monday, TxDOT will be looking for people not wearing seatbelts, even more that usual.
Monday kicks off their "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which will run through memorial day.
In Texas, they are on track for vehicle related deaths to be up 11% from 2012, and they want to combat that trend however possible. They believe getting people to buckle up is one way to fight those deaths.
While looking for anybody not wearing a seatbelt, law enforcement will be paying even closer attention to pickup truck drivers. Their research shows that only 82% of pickup passengers wear a seatbelt, compared to 91% of car passengers. This is especially worrisome to TxDOT as pickups are more likely to flip or eject passengers during a crash.
