Jefferson Parish, LA (KMSS) — A fatal crash is leading officers to believe it was a reckless operation.
It happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in Jefferson Parish at the intersection of U.S. 90B and Drake Avenue. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on the U.S. 90B/West Bank Expressway.
The crash resulted in the death of motorcyclist, Dylan Smith, 21, of Westego.
Troopers began preliminary investigation revealed tha tSmith was riding his motorcycle in the left westbound lane of U.S. 90B when he accelerated his motorcycle to a high speed.
As Smith continued westboynd, a truck was traveling north on Drake Avenue, while attempting to Cross the westbound lanes of U.S. 90B. The motorcycle then crashed into the right side of the truck ejecting Smith from the bike.
Smith sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time and is pending the results of a toxicology exam.
The driver of the truck, Esaw Frazier, 59, of Marrero, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and had no injuries.
Driver impairment is not suspected of Frazier.
The crash still remains under investigation at this time.
Troopers are urging motorists to refrain from driving recklessly or while impaired and/or distracted. Everyday drivers and passengers suffer the consequences of poor choices made while behind the wheel.
Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
