Two vehicle crash leaves on seriously injured, another behind bars

A two vehicle crash leaves one person seriously injured.

It happened Saturday evening at 8:25 when Louisiana State Police Troop G was called to a two vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 just one mile west of Interstate 49.

Investigation found that a truck driven by Joseph Hendrix, 54, of Shreveport was attempting to enter U.S. Highway 84 from a private drive when he pulled directly in front of a tractor trailer driven by Arnold Fitzgerald, 56, of Tenaha, Texas.

Fitzgerald attempted to avoid the collision with Hendrix but was unable to do so. His vehicle overturned and came to a rest blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes of travel on U.S. Highway 84.

Fitzgerald sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to a hospital in Shreveport.

Both Hendrix and Fitzgerald were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Impairment on the part of Hendrix is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

Hendrix was charaged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular negligence injuring, and failure to yield when exiting a private drive. Hendrix was booked into the DeSoto Parish Jail. 

The crash is still under investigation.
