Shreveport, La — Two were people were killed early Thursday morning after crashing into a tree in west Shreveport.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., police were called to the 6700 block of South Lake Shore Drive near Risinger Drive to a major crash involving one vehicle. When they arrived, officers discovered that a car had been traveling northwest on South Lakeshore Drive before it left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a tree. The two passengers were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials were forced to close a section of South Lakeshore Drive between Pines Road and Risinger Drive for a short period of time, but that section of the roadway has been re-opened to traffic.

 Authorities are still working at this time to determine the cause of the crash. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
