Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — A Shreveport teen is behind bars after being found in possession of a gun on a school bus.
It happened just after 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Hearne Avenue.
Shreveport Police were called to the scene for reports of a handgun being recovered on a school bus.
The call was received from the driver of a Caddo Parish school bus who reported that a student had fled from the bus after a semi-automatic .380 caliber handgun was found inside a backup belonging to that student.
The weapon, which was not loaded at the time, was discovered after the student's backpack fell to the floor of the bust and was retrieved by a bus driver.
The 14-year-old teen is enrolled as a student at Linear Middle School and was one of the five students on the bust at the time of the incident.
Upon discovery of the weapon, the teen fled out the back of the emergency exit of the bus and was last seen running on Hearne Avenue.
Fortunately no students were injured.
Several hours after the incident, the teen was taken into custody after officers made contact with the teen's parents.
It is at this time unclare why the teen was in possession of the firearm but he now faces charges of juvenile in possession of a fire arm, possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone, and possessino of a firearm with obliterated serial number.
Authorities have taken the weapon and the teen was booked into Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
