For the 4th year, CHRISTUS Health, along with Sci-Port and 30 other community sponsors, invited children to take advantage of a heath screening before heading back to school in just a few weeks.

More than 1,800 children came to Sci-Port Friday morning to receive the health screening, and also a backpack full of grade appropriate school supplies. This year's health fair included checking body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, immunization, vision and dental checks along with various social service agencies.

For many of the children that take advantage of the annual health screening, this is the only medical assessment they receive. Seeing the need, CHRISTUS Health came up with the idea of the screenings. Their first year, only 300 children took advantage of the opportunity, but each year more and more children and families have attended the completely free health screenings.
