"Relatively Small" Number of All-Star Arrests

By Associated Press

Police in New Orleans say there were 98 arrests Friday through Sunday as large crowds hit the city for NBA All-Star game activities.

That included 40 arrests for state law violations, 42 for municipal violations and 15 for traffic violations. Police say in a Monday morning news release that it was a relatively small number of arrests for such a major event. They say part of the success is due to their having sent a lieutenant to Las Vegas to observe that city's handling of all-Star events last year.

There was one incident of violence reported amid post-game partying early Monday in the French Quarter. A Florida teenager and two 24-year-old women were hit in the legs by gunfire about 1 a.m. Their injuries were not life threatening. No arrests have been made.
