Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — June 18, more that 700 pools and water parks attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the largest swim lesson. One of the water parks involved was Splash Kingdom in Shreveport.
Bad weather kept all but two swimmers from the water park, but those two got a one-on-one lesson from instructors.
Lessons are still going on around the world, so there is still a chance the record will be broken, but beyond that, the goal of the day is to raise awareness of the importance of knowing how to swim.
Drownings are the second highest form of accidental deaths in children, and many of them could be prevented if the children knew how to swim.
