The Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a one year old little boy in Shreveport’s Mooretown neighborhood.

At approximately 6:58 a.m. on February 16, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 6800 block of Broadway Avenue relative to an EMS call. Upon arrival, officers contacted Shreveport Fire Department personnel who reported they responded to a medical emergency at the home there and found a one year old male unconscious and unresponsive. They subsequently transported the child to Willis Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives and officials with the Coroner’s Office were notified and immediately began their investigation. At least four persons in the home were transported to the Shreveport Police Complex where they were later interviewed by investigators. Dr. Todd Thoma, Caddo Parish Coroner, has conducted an autopsy on the child and is working to determine the cause of death. At this hour the investigation into the child’s death is ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed.

In an unrelated development, the child’s father, 23 year old Rodricus Crawford, was arrested and charged with two warrants that were outstanding for his arrest, one for second offense possession of a Schedule I narcotic and one for contempt of court. Crawford, of the 6800 block of Broadway Avenue in Shreveport, was also charged with another count of second offense possession of a Schedule I narcotic after crime scene investigators discovered a small amount of suspected marijuana in the home on Broadway.
