Shreveport Police warn about fake officer phone scam

Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 9:30am

Several Shreveport residents reported what police are calling "suspicious phone calls" on Wednesday evening.

Authorities with the Shreveport Police Department say that the number shows up as 318-673-7300 on caller ID, which is the Shreveport Police Department's non-emergency number. Some residents also claim the number shows up as 9-1-1 on their caller ID.

The caller is a man who claims to be an officer with the police department, who says the resident is wanted on outstanding warrants for their arrest.

He tells people that they can send money to him in exchange for having the warrants recalled.

Authorities with the Shreveport Police Department did not make those calls and investigators have been notified and will be following up on these cases to determine who is responsible.

Shreveport Police warn everyone to never give out any personal information to someone you don't know over the phone, neither attempt to send any amount of money to settle any criminal matters over the telephone or online.

Anyone who might have received a similar call is asked to call the Shreveport Police Department immediately at 318-673-7300 so an officer can be dispatched to investigate.
