Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Dozens of supporters from law enforcement agencies throughout the region gathered this morning at the Shreveport Regional Police and Fire Training Academy to bid a final farewell to one of their own.
Shreveport Police K-9 Mico was laid to rest this morning on the academy grounds at the SPD K-9 Rest cemetery.
Mico was a beloved member of the Shreveport Police Department's Tactical K-9 Unit and served faithfully and valiantly until his death last week. Mico, who succumbed to a brief illness, was an eight year old Belgian Malinois, who served on the department for five years.
Together with his handler Cpl. Christopher Yarborough, Mico during his career was responsible for the arrest and apprehension of countless felony suspects and the discovery of tens of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics.
Known for his prowess in battle, Mico never cowered under duress or at the responsibility of protecting fellow law officers in the event it became necessary.
The uncompromising loyalty and courage displayed by Mico will forever be remembered and respected by the Shreveport Police Department and it's employees. K-9 Mico, E.O.W. 15 May 2013.
