Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — A man has died following a multiple car accident along a stretch of Interstate 220 in west Shreveport Sunday night.
Just after 11:00 p.m., June 30, 2013, Shreveport police responded to a major accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 220 at Jefferson Paige Road. Upon officers arrival at the scene, it was learned that an unidentified white male had been killed after apparently being run over by upwards of five vehicles after he attempted to cross a section of the interstate. Shreveport Police Crash investigators working the accident gathered evidence that indicated the deceased was initially operating a 2006 Mazda 3 vehicle which became disabled after the vehicle struck a raised curbed median at the intersection of Jefferson Paige Road and Rose Street. Evidence further suggests that the vehicle continued westbound in the opposing travel lane before striking a second raised median at the intersection of Jefferson Paige Road and Interstate 220's east bound exit ramp. Following the second collision, the vehicle traveled over the bridge embankment and down to the shoulder of the Interstate 220 travel lanes where it came to rest after catching on fire.
Witnesses to the accident provided accounts claiming the decedent was seen exiting the burning vehicle and running east bound across the interstate directly into the path of pickup truck traveling westbound along Interstate 220. The collision with the truck, a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, rendered the pedestrian unconscious along the roadway. It was during this time, the pedestrian was subsequently struck by an additional four to five vehicles that were also traveling along the interstate. The driver of the Toyota pickup was identified as David Lynn Raney, 23, of Bethany. Raney, who not injured in the crash, was subject to standardized chemical testing a mandated by state law.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities are working at this hour to positively identify the victim of the accident and identify those drivers involved in the accident.
