Two Shreveport men were arrested after an early morning burglary on the west side of the city.

Just after 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Shreveport officers were called to the 200 block of West 84th Street following reports of men in the act of burglarizing an 18-wheeler parked in a private lot. When authorities arrived, both the alleged suspects ran from the area.

Authorities quickly caught Gerald Davenport, 49, and took him into custody without incident.

The second suspect, Erick Blackstone, 46, was caught with the help of a K-9 officer in a nearby wooded area behind a business. Blackstone was treated on scene by Shreveport Fire Department medics for injury sustained during his attempts to escape.

Police recovered and returned stolen merchandise belonging to a local retailer housed on the parking lot. Shreveport detectives were called to the scene to help with the investigation.

Investigators were able to gather evidence linking both men to the crime. Davenport and Blackstone were each charged with a single count of burglary and booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
