A Shreveport man was arrested Friday morning for the alleged sexual assault of a minor.

In July of this year Shreveport Police responded to the 7100 block of Burlingame Boulevard on reports of a sexual assault. When officers arrived at the scene they talked to the father of the victim.

The father told officers that his daughter said she had been sexually assaulted by a family friend. Patrol officers then began the investigation and notified detectives.

Shreveport Police Sex Crimes Detectives were given the case and then interviewed the victim and her father.

Through interviews detectives learned that Fredrick L. Covington, 48, of Shreveport, had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at his residence of the 4100 block of Union Street.

Authorities were then able to get an arrest warrant based on information learned through the ongoing investigation. Covington then surrendered to authorities Friday morning at Shreveport Police Headquarters.

After interviews with investigators Covington was booked into Shreveport City Jail on one count of molestation of a juvenile.
