A Shreveport man is arrested for leaving his child unattended in a hot car.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Louisiana Boardwalk.

Police were patrolling the parking lot when they noticed a car was illegally parked in a handicapped spot with the driver's door window rolled down.

After approaching the car, the officer found a small boy unresponsive and breathing in the back seat.

The officer pulled the boy from the car and carried to him to a shaded area. The officer called for the local fire department as he tried to revive the child.

After a few minutes, the 3-year-old boy became responsive and was treated at the scene by fire department personnel.

While on scene, the boy's father, Joshua Louis Jefferson, 26, of Shreveport, walked up.

Investigation found that Jefferson had parked the car and left his son inside it while he went to pick up his paycheck at a Louisiana Boardwalk restaurant.

Jefferson was arrested for child desertion and booked into Bossier City Jail. He was also issued a handicapped parking ticket.

The child was released into the custody of another family member.
