Shreveport clerk chases off bandits with gun of his own

A local store clerk warded off would-be burglars with a gun of his own Monday night.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Shreveport officers were dispatched to reports of an attempted armed robbery at the Daiquiri Express. When police arrived at the scene in the 6700 block of Pines Road, they learned an armed man had entered the store and demanded money from the cash register, but was unsuccessful.

The clerk told authorities during the time the robber was inside, the employee was able to get a own gun and ordered the thief to leave. The would-be robber, who was armed with a shotgun, turned and ran from the business before getting any money. A second man, who is believed to be partners with the gunman, tried to enter when the first was running out. He quickly turned and ran from the store. Both men were seen leaving the area on foot. The armed bandit allegedly fired a blast as he was leaving.

No injuries were reported during the caper.

Authorities were able to obtain descriptions of the alleged criminals in the attempted robbery along with surveillance video from the business that is currently under review. 

The armed man  is described as a black male, about 5'7", with a slim build wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, dark ski type mask and armed with a gun.  The second bandit was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt; however his ethnicity could not be determined.  Authorities are working at this hour to identify and apprehend those responsible for this the incident.  Anyone with any information on this crime is urged to call Shreveport-Caddo Crimestoppers at (318) 673-7373 or Detective John Jackson at (318) 673-6955.
