Shoplifter tells officers ‘there ain’t no Santa Claus’ as reason for theft

A Houma woman was caught shoplifting 70 cosmetic items. When asked why she did it, she said she was planned to give the items as gifts to relatives in Florida because “there ain’t no Santa Claus.”

The Houma Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Sunday, Dec. 30 shortly before 4:00 p.m. Officers were called to the Wal-Mart on Grand Caillou Road after an employee observed the suspect stealing the items.

Sharon Lee Clark, 55, admitted to taking the items and told officers she planned on giving the items away as Christmas gifts.

Clark was arrested and charged for Theft. The total value of the stolen items is over $750. The merchandise was returned to the store.

Clark was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
