Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — According to Shreveport Fire Department officials, a local Shreveport man lost his life while trying to escape during an early morning house fire in downtown Shreveport. Tragically, this marks Shreveport’s first reported fire death of 2014.
When fire crews were dispatched at 12:34 a.m., they were also notified that the homeowner could possibly be trapped inside. Immediately upon arrival, additional equipment and manpower was called to assist with rescue and extinguishment. During operations an older, white adult male was found near the side patio doors.
It took six engine companies; two ladder trucks; two rescue trucks; two battalion chiefs; two medic units; and 40 firefighters nearly 30
minutes to bring the fully engulfed fire under control. No other
injuries were reported on-scene.
While SFD investigators determine the exact origin and cause of this fire, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office will investigate the cause of death and confirm the identification of the victim.
