Orlando, FL (CNN) — Trainers at Sea World Orlando started wearing custom designed emergency vests Monday during whale shows.
The vests have a mini scuba pack and become flotation devices with the pull of a cord.
Head trainer, Kelly Flaherty Clark says it's designed to keep the trainers safe while working with the Orcas.
Trainers have not been in the water with whales since the 2010 death of trainer, Dawn Brancheau and they won't be going in even with the new vests.
Federal courts upheld a mandate by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration that trainers stay out of the water.
