Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Two schools in the MLK District could soon be closing and one board member is speaking out.
The school board will soon vote to close Newton Smith Sixth Grade Center along with Linear Leadership Academy. The move comes after a proposed agreement with the Recovery School District.
School Board Member Jasmine Green says see is continuing to fight to keep those schools open for her district.
"I believe that the Caddo Parish School Board should hold on to it because you have the development that is growing in the MLK area and with the new highway and new construction coming that way."
She plans to hold a town hall meeting for her district in the coming weeks. The school board will vote on the matter in an upcoming meeting.
