On Monday, at 10:14 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 371 at Louisiana Highway 2 in Webster Parish.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a car, driven by a juvenile, was traveling west on LA Highway 2 when the they approached the intersection of U.S. Highway 371 and stopped at the stop sign. The car then started to cross the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 371 directly into the path of a northbound motorcycle, driven by Rodney Johnson, 48, of Sarepta. The juvenile steered left in an attempt to avoid a crash, which resulted in the car traveling south in northbound lane of U.S. Highway 371. The motorcycle driver started braking, lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected. The motorcycle then struck the car

Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The juvenile was properly restrained and did not report any injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The juvenile was cited with failure to yield. The crash remains under investigation.
