Public meeting scheduled about deadly amoeba

A public meeting hosted by Desoto parish officials to be held Thursday will provide the public with the opportunity to ask their local, elected and state officials about their concerns with the recent discovery of the N. Fowleri amoeba in the Desoto Parish Water Works District I system.

Sheriff and Director of Emergency Preparedness Rodney Arbuckle, State Senator Sherri Smith Buffington, and State Representatives Richard Burford and Kenny Cox have coordinated this meeting with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health, and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

The meeting will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Salem Baptist Church, 109 Church Road (located off Stonewall-Frierson Road near the intersection of Highway 171) in Stonewall.
