A driver not wearing a seatbelt was killed Tuesday night in DeSoto Parish.

It happened around 11:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop G were called to a single vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 west of Louisiana Highway 481.

Upon investigation, deputies found that a truck drive by David Lovett, 34, of Logansport, was traveling west on U.S. Highway 84 at a high speed and drove off the right side of the road. Lovett then drove through a ditch, struck a culver and the vehicle began rolling.

Lovett was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Alcohol is suspected in this crash, a toxicology sample was obtained and will submitted to a lab for analysis.

At this time the crash still remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to warn that making poor decisions in a vehicle can lead to serious injuries and death. Making a responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers would like to remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel and always wear a seatbelt.
