NWS: EF-3 tornado touches down in ETX on Christmas Day

Preliminary weather reports from the National Weather Service show an EF-3 tornado touching down in parts of Houston County on Christmas Day.

An NWS survey team confirms at least one tornado landed near the the town of Pennington at around 9 a.m. The twister downed numerous trees and damaged or destroyed several buildings.

The tornado's path is believed to have run parallel to Highway 287 about 1 mile north of Pennington.

Officials are expected release more information on this and other possible twisters that touched down in the area following data collection.

An EF-3 tornado is defined as having winds that reach between 136-165 miles per hour.

No deaths have been reported.
