Mother admits to spanking son with belt, arrested for injury to a child

Harlingen police arrested a mother for injury to a child after she admitted to spanking her 12-year-old son with a belt.

On Saturday, September 21, at 4:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of Lozano Street in reference to the welfare check of a child.

A caller stated they had seen a child running outside without any clothes on and wanted to remain anonymous.

An officer made contact with a woman at the Lozano Street location who was identified as Elizabeth Cruz, 38. She admitted to the officer she had spanked her son with a belt after he had taken money from his aunt.

The son was visually checked and the officer noticed bruising on his right eye, right wrist and the right upper backside which matched the width of the belt that was used.

Cruz was arrested and handed a $2,500 bond.

Really it is a shocking event that the mother had hit her son with a spanking belt and she also admitted to her crime. Harlingen police had known this incident after they came to know from the neighbors as they have seen the child running without clothes. After it the police had located the house and then they verified that the child was injured and the accidents and she was identified as Elizabeth Cruz.
