Mooringsport man caught with 5 pounds of marijuana in traffic stop

A Mooringsport man was arrested Tuesday after narcotics agents found marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

On Tuesday, authorities stopped a vehicle on Highway 169 near Dayton Road, according to Sheriff Steve Prator. The officer then asked the driver, later identified as Edward Barmore, 50, if he could search his vehicle for drugs.

With the help of his K-9 partner, Ace, they found five pounds of marijuana hidden in the engine compartment. An additional 27.9 grams of marijuana was found later at Barmore's house on Croom Street.

Barmore was arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of schedule I CDS - 2nd offense and a traffic violation. No bond amount has been set.
