A Financial Crimes agent with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Plain Dealing Police Department arrested a Plain Dealing man today for passing counterfeit $20 bills at two area businesses this morning.

Arthur R. Stewart, 51, of the 200 block of Ford Rd. in Plain Dealing, was arrested just before noon today by an agent with the Bossier Financial Crimes Task Force after the Plain Dealing Police Department determined Stewart purchased items from one store and attempted to purchase items at another store this morning.

Stewart purchased a couple of drinks from the Phillips 66 in Plain Dealing with a counterfeit $20 and later attempted to pass a couple of fake $20 bills in exchange for a $30 phone card at the Dollar General in Plain Dealing. When officers contacted Stewart, they found an additional $665 in counterfeit bills, in $20 and $5 denominations, on his person. He was also found to have an active warrant out of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office for simple battery.

Stewart admitted to passing the counterfeit money and was arrested and charged with two counts of monetary instrument abuse, as well as arrested on the warrant charge, and was transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility for booking.
