SHREVEPORT, La. (KMSS) — One of Shreveport's newest schools is preparing to open next week.
Construction on the Magnolia Charter School started just last year. Today, the school is less than a week away from opening its' doors for the first time to over 650 students.
“I have been teaching, this will be my 6th year and this is brand new, whether you have been teaching for a year or 20 years, everybody is super excited and just so blessed to have this opportunity," said kindergarten teacher Amanda Duty.
The school will be run by Charter Schools USA and is open to any child K-6 that lives within Caddo Parish.
“We have had lots of parents to stop by and tour the school the last couple of days and of course we are busy getting classrooms set up now today and still doing some final punch list things, so we are getting ready for that grand tour but we are going to have that coming up very soon," said Principal Pamela Barker.
The school doesn’t require tuition or testing to be accepted but because of limited space a waiting list has already been created.
