BATON ROUGE, LA — “The Golden Band from Tigerland” recently received yet another national recognition, as the world renowned LSU Tiger Marching Band has been included in a top ten list of “The Best Marching Bands for 2011-12,” compiled by The Huffington Post.
“Marching bands are awesome,” Huffington Post writer Anna Susman wrote in the article. “This invaluable part of the college football experience gets the crowd amped up, and generates competitive spirit between the two schools battling from supremacy. The following colleges have nurtured marching bands that always impress, always excite and always showcase their full talent.”
While the list does not give specific rankings for each school, the Tiger Marching Band is displayed as the third band in a slideshow presentation on the Huffington Post’s website.
“’The Golden Band from Tigerland’ out of Louisiana State University dazzles audiences with their consistent talent and their “Golden Girls,” the article reads. “The band received the Sudler Trophy in 2002, and in 2008 won a contest sponsored by ESPN, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm called ‘Battle of the Bands.’”
The Tiger Marching Band joins other university marching bands on the list representing universities such as fellow Southeastern Conference members Texas A&M University and the University of Tennessee Knoxville, as well as those from the University of Texas, University of Southern California, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, Florida A&M University, University of Notre Dame and West Virginia University.
“The LSU Tiger Band is delighted to be selected as one of the top ten college marching bands of 2011-2012,” said LSU Director of Athletic Bands Roy King. “It is an honor to be in the company of the other marching bands who were selected. Congratulations to the directors, staff and students of these fine organizations for all the hard work they do to represent their universities in such a prestigious manner.”
