LSU confirms that tar balls are from BP oil spill
BATON ROUGE, LA — The LSU School of Coast and Environmental Science says the tar balls that washed up on Elmer's Island and Grand Isle are from the BP spill in 2010.
The university was able to get several samples of the tar balls. Once the tests were complete, they were able to find that it is the exact same oil that came from the Macondo well, which is the same one that blewout on April 20, 2010.
Dr. Ed Overton says we can expect to see more tar balls show up in future storms.
Tar balls are also being reported on the Alabama coastline.
