The Bossier Parish School Board Says This Time It Is Final. After A 8 To 3 Vote On Thursday The Group Has Finally Decided On A Start And End Date For Next Year. Bossier Public Schools Will Now Start On Aug 18. And Let Out On May 29th. This Decision Comes After Four Different Options Were Presented To The Board.
Ken Kruith of, Superintendent
There Were A Lot Of Factors Involved In Trying To Develop The Calendar. It Is Really Not An Easy Process...I Know People Think It Ought To Be Easy But There Are A Lot Of Things You Have To Consider.
Those Things To Consider Were Exam Schedules And The Controversial Issue Of Parents Complaining That The Month Of August Was Too Hot To Start School. Angry Parents Petitioned, But Bossier Parish Teachers Fought Back And Said That Starting School Too Late Would Throw Off State Wide Testing.
Some Parents Came And Had Some Concerns And They Have Had Concerns Every Year...If You Try To Please Everybody, You Are Not Going To Please Anybody.
The Superintendent Says At Best The New Calendar Is A Compromise. While High School Students Won't Take Their Mid-Year Exams Until After Christmas Break, The New Calendar Does Give The District A Week Off At Thanksgiving, Two Weeks Off At Christmas And All But Two Single-Day Holidays.
Not Memorial Day And Not Labor Day But The Week At Spring Break Is There. And We Will Move Forward And We Are Looking Forward To A New School Year.
