Lawn Mowers, Weed Eaters And Grass Blowers. To You, They Might Just Be Viewed As Basic Lawn Equipment But To Thieves The Items Mean Easy Cash In Their Pockets. Officers In The Property Crimes Unit Say Each Year Residents Neglect Their Lawn Tools And Leave Them Outside Allowing Many Juveniles And Thieves To Come Along And Pawn Them.
Sgt. Allen Johnson, Shreveport Police
Thieves Always Do What Is Easy. If They Didn't Do What Was Easy They Would Have A Job. So If They Have The Opportunity To Try To Break Into Some Place Where Everything Is Secured Or Go Into Your Stuff That Is Laying Out In The Yard, They Are Going To Choose The Easiest And Get The Stuff That Is Lying Out On The Lawn.
Last Year There Were 1,737 Thefts From A Resident, Most Of Those Occurring During The Summer And Around Holidays. Out Of That Number Most Of The Robberies Occurred In The Cedar Grove And Broadmoor Area Which Is Exactly Where I Found The Most Equipment Laying Out.
If You Want To Keep It You Might Want To Take The Time To Secure It. Equipment Especially Now-A-Days Is Not Very Cheap. But With Inflation And Being What It Is And Everything, Everything Tends To Go Up In Price.
Sgt. Johnson Says Residents Can Do The Obvious Thing And Lock Up Their Equipment But He Also Says Getting To Know Your Neighbor And Having Them Watch Out For You Is Another Deterrent.
