Lavelle Pepper, Post Office Spokesman Said, "May 12th, Stamps Will Go Up. Instead Of Paying 41 Cents For A Regular Stamp, You'll Pay 42 Cents."
But Don't Fret. The United States Post Office Is Offering What They Call The Forever Stamp. Over Six Billion Have Already Been Sold Nationwide And More Expected As The Deadline Quickly Approaches. If Purchased Now At 41 Cents, The Stamp Can Be Used Now And Forever On First Class Mail.
Pepper Says They Haven't Heard Any Complaints From Customers Because People Understand That The Cost Of Things Tend To Rise, But What You May Not Know Is That When Gas Prices Go Up By One Cent, Post Office Costs Go Up By $8 Million.
Pepper Says, "There Have Been Laws Passed And Yes Postage Will Go Up Every Year, But It Is Capped At The Rate Of Inflation For Regular Letter Class Mail. There's A Different Group Of Services That We Can Go Up On And Become More Competitive With And Those Prices Will Also Go Up In May Of Each Year."
The Last Increase Was In 2007 When Rates Rose From 39 Cents To The Current Price Of 41 Cents. This Year's Increase Is Less Than Two Weeks Away So The Time To Get Your Forever Stamps Is Now.
