Rising Costs of Household Expenses Are Leading To Forms Of Child Abuse

By Bianya Tennerson

Diapers Are Expensive, To Say The Least, And Often Times The Rising Costs Force Parents To Make Choices Between Items For Their Child And Other Household Expenses. Councilors At The Center For Families Are Now Seeing A Correlation Between Child Abuse And The Cost Of Diapers.

Betsy Williams, The Center For Families Clinical Director. Said, "What Happens Is A Child May Wear A Diaper For Longer Than Should, Develop Extreme Diaper Rash And Also It Could Lead To Parents Getting Frustrated With Their Children."

Williams Says Not Changing A Child Often Enough Is A Form Of Neglect And Child Abuse And When Stressed Or Frustrated By The Situation, Families Should Take A Step Back And Look For Ways To Save Money So That Purchasing Items For A Child Is No Longer A Burden.

Williams Said, "I Think One Thing Is To Look For Other Avenues For Their Entertainment. We Have Plenty Of Parks Around Here That Don't Cost Anything To Go And You Can Be With Your Children And You Can Play. That Helps If They Can Find Avenues That Don't Cost."

Williams Also Suggests Seeking Out The Help Of Organizations Designed To Assist Families In Need Like The Cara Center, Local Churches And Even The Food Bank Who Sometimes Have Diapers Available.

The Counselor Also Says One Violent Episode With A Child Can Lead To A Lifetime Of Fear, Anxiety And Paranoia So It Must Be Avoided At All Cost.
